Category: Heavy Metal

Often simply known as metal, it evolved from hard rock music. It is a musical form characterized by aggressive, driving rhythms and heavily amplified distorted guitars. Its origins lie in hard rock bands from 1967 to 1974, who took blues and rock to create a hybrid with a heavy, guitar- and drum-centric sound. Since the late 1970s, many bands have combined this sound with the revival of European classical music. The musical genres that comprise heavy metal reached their peak popularity in the 1980s, when many of the existing subgenres first evolved. Heavy metal performances are characterized by extravagant, pyrotechnic guitar solos and a defiantly countercultural staging that pushes boundaries.
