Rave is not music, but a dance party in a nightclub, outdoor festival, warehouse or other private property or public space, usually with DJs playing electronic music. It originated in 1989 in the UK as underground, often illegal gatherings in abandoned warehouses. Additionally, it is often characterized by a positive, psychedelic atmosphere, often (but not always) drugs and casual sex.
