Basically, the term has two popular interpretations, the first one being a description of all electronic music or electronic dance music. The second interpretation is a style derived from house music that completely abandoned the influence of disco. Furthermore, this style originated in the United States in the 80s and became popular worldwide in the 90s. It was the result of the fascination of African-American youth from Detroit for European electronic dance music.
